4 Reasons To Get Excited About Intimate Weddings In 2021!

photography by Lisa Vigliotta

Intimate Weddings are the new trend. As the wedding industry looks to the future, it is clear that a lot has changed. Around the world, and here in Canada, we will all need to contend with restrictions in a post-COVID world, most likely until there is a vaccine.

The thought of a small wedding may be disheartening. We know they’re not for everyone, especially if you’ve been blessed with a large family that’s scattered around the globe! Guest lists of 200, 300, even as much as 500 people is not a stretch for some couples. So with the reality that large events may not be possible in the short term, couples are facing the difficult decision of how to go forward with planning their wedding. Under these mandated constraints, it’s understandable that it may be hard to get excited about your big day.

Intimate Weddings Considerations:

Let’s get the financial talk out of the way. Even if your work was not halted like some of your peers or neighbours, you don’t want to spend unlimited funds. You are not alone in looking to make your dollar stretch without compromising your vision.

So, as you budget, take into account that the cost of food and flowers, for example, have increased exponentially because of supply and demand and exports from foreign countries. That means some items may not be as readily accessible, or available only at a premium. Consider buying seasonal florals and local products to support Canadian businesses.

Stretch Your Budget Farther

An Intimate Wedding is a beautiful solution to a pandemic dilemma. As a planner, when I sit down to help a client manage their wedding I always look at 3 factors:

  • how much do you plan to spend?
  • how many guests are you inviting?
  • what are your priorities?

The answers to these three questions let me know if the budget is realistic, allowing me to allocate funds appropriately to each category on your behalf. General rule of thumb, the more guests you have, the more money you must spend to create a cohesive and seamless visual and logistical experience.

An Intimate Wedding allows you to splurge without breaking the bank!

Indulging In The Little Details

Nothing can replace having your family and friends close. But if you can’t have everyone, indulge in the things that make you happy, and share it livestream. You’ve dreamed of hand-made stationery, gold cutlery, velvet napkin, harvest chairs; items you’ve seen in an editorial shoot of your favourite vendor. Here is your chance to have what you thought was out of budget!

Start with choosing a sentimental venue for your ceremony and a small interesting venue for your reception, or a venue with a scenic setting for both. If you are flexible your options are endless.

It’s important to hire an exceptional photographer and videographer that will take the time to capture all the intricate details you’ve chosen to make your day special. Having beautiful timeless memories to share with those whom were able and unable to attend, is a must!

One-on-One Time with your Guests

Another silver lining to consider: an intimate wedding means you get a chance to speak to guests you haven’t seen in a while. Imagine: dining alfresco, family style, under the stars! Seated amongst your guests at a long table, laughing, smiling and engaged in conversation because you’re not sequestered away at a head table. Simply put, you will have more time to enjoy your guests!

An Editorial Finish

Don’t get me wrong, Intimate Weddings are not “easier”. Small details require a lot of work and careful attention, but the end result can be magic, especially when you have an amazing vendor team!

As a Fine Art Event Designer, I enjoy pulling together picturesque shoots that tell a story. Intimate Weddings offer endless possibilities to deliver Editorial level finishes for our couples. That get’s me, and my team, very excited.

This is the quality we provide to our clients. Give us a chance to assist you to indulge your creative design fantasy. Something you may otherwise not entertain, under other circumstances, is an exciting prospect!
